Summer has officially arrived, and our beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are eagerly anticipating adventures with their wonderful humans! Many of our precious puppies will be enjoying the beautiful beaches and water of Florida.
While the beach offers exciting opportunities for fun and play, it's crucial to remain diligent and understand the potential beach hazards to ensure the safety and comfort for your Cavaliers
Did you know that your Ruby, Blenheim, Black and Tan or Tri-color could face serious health risks, such as intestinal blockage known as sand impaction, from sniffing or swallowing sand? Symptoms like vomiting and gastrointestinal pain can indicate this serious issue, which can even be life-threatening.
To ensure your pup enjoys a safe and delightful beach day, consider these essential preventive measures:
Keep a close eye on your adorable pup to prevent them from eating or sniffing too much sand.
Stay vigilant about hydration; bring plenty of fresh water, as your Cavalier should avoid salt water.
Remember that those tiny paws are sensitive! Hot sand can cause painful burns, so be mindful of the sand temperature.
Stay informed about water conditions, such as rough surf, riptides, and the presence of dangerous sea creatures like jellyfish, stingrays, and man-of-war.
Bring a blanket, towels and umbrella!
Visit the beach early in the morning or late afternoon, avoiding peak sun.
Don’t underestimate the intense sunshine state Florida heat; it can lead to heat stroke, which poses serious risks for our furry friends. https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/systemic/heatstroke-dogs

If you and your pup are hitting the high seas, luxuriating lakeside or canoeing down the lazy river… like humans, please take extra care for safe and fun boating adventures. Like many Floridians, boating is a beautiful pastime of the sunshine state lifestyle. And taking your Cavalier with you for a day on the water could be a routine part of your summer! Be a perfect first mate to your pup and ensure dog boating safety. Cavalier Rescue of Florida recommends the following Cavalier boating safety tips:
Start with short trips to get your Cavalier comfortable and always supervise your pup while on the boat.
Safety first - properly fitted life jacket is crucial for all salty dogs, plus leashes and harnesses are a must.
Help them with their sea legs - assure dog friendly flooring is on the boat.
Don’t forget the S-PUP-F - sunscreen for their noses. BOOP!
Always have fresh, clean water available. Avoid letting them drink from the lake or sea, as it may contain harmful organisms.
Stay Alert: Continuously monitor your Cavies for signs of stress or discomfort and be prepared to adjust your plans as needed.

We love to have our precious pups by our sides all the time and enjoying adventures together. By following these suggestions, you can create a relaxing and safe beach or boat experience filled with joy and unforgettable moments with your delightful, playful, and lovable
Love, the Cavaliers of CRF! Xo
