Hazel
Adopted!
Introducing sweet Hazel! Hazel is a 6-month-old intact Tricolor female puppy bought from a pet store in Florida. Like many dreadful pet store puppy purchases, her family noted coughing and diarrhea once home. She was treated for kennel cough and Giardia a few days before she was relinquished to CRF. Another tragic story of pet store / puppy mill puppies…
Dr. Lauren Brown at Oceanview Veterinary Hospital completed Hazel’s initial exam once in rescue. Because her condition was so highly contagious with kennel cough, her exam happened in the car! Sadly, the risk was too great of infecting other pups in the veterinarian office.
Hazel has a mild cough and continues treatment with antibiotics and cough tablets. Hazel is also being treated with antibiotics and dewormer for Giardia. Aside from her current treatments, her ears, eyes and heart are healthy. Hazel weighs a tiny 7.7 pounds and has two deciduous teeth that will be extracted during her spay surgery. Hazel will have a recheck visit in one week for fecal test to assure Giardia is resolving and will have chest x-rays done if still coughing. Her vaccinations are up to date. Aw, poor little pup, feel better sweet Hazel.
As we have seen with pet store purchases, puppies suffer: born into a mill, the momma pups suffer continuously, lack of healthcare for their young lives and careless and negligent transport.
Unlike Daisy, we have hope for Hazel and a bright future. Sweet Hazel will be with us for a while while we get her healthy and strong. She is not available for adoption yet, we ask your patience while we get her on the road to health and happiness. Xo
