Siena is one of seven traumatized Cavaliers rescued from a puppy mill operation in April. The neglect these dogs suffered was obvious, what is less so is what the long-term behavioral effects might be. Potential adopters need extraordinary sensitivity and patience with the needs of these pups that are at the extreme of rescue’s definition.
Pretty Ruby Siena is just now learning what it is like to be in a home and living with a family, and has gotten a taste of freedom, love, and care for the first time in her life. Her transition progresses slowly, and she exhibits fear with humans, but we see promising gains weekly as she adapts to the good life. She has done well in potty training with diligent efforts. Siena is an excited and good eater, though showing minor food guarding. She enjoys her foster siblings and follows their lead and reads their cues to know what to do, where to go, and how to behave. She is not yet leash trained.
While timid at first, Siena has begun to show her charming personality. She’ll now romp with the other pups in the yard and has learned playful catch games and toys. With some patience, she’ll allow cuddling as she gets to trust you. We’re confident this girl will continue to come out of her shell, and she deserves all the best that a furever home can offer.
