Odesa

Odesa is one of seven traumatized Cavaliers rescued from a puppy mill operation in April.  The neglect these dogs suffered was obvious, what is less so is what the long-term behavioral effects might be.  Potential adopters need extraordinary sensitivity and patience with the needs of these pups that are at the extreme of rescue’s definition.

Meet Odesa, a pretty Ruby girl that, and let’s just say this upfront, is out to make you hers.  This sweetheart is bouncing back nicely from the past, quickly learning to enjoy this good life.  And part of that is having someone finally show that they love her, and for her to return it in spades!  There is nothing that Odesa loves more than simply being with “her” person.

Yet living wasn’t always this easy.  Odesa is a Momma from the puppy mill, having recently weaned a litter of puppies.  She came to rescue with multiple areas of hair loss, which is not abnormal when nursing their babies and is sometimes referred to as "blowing her coat."  Luckily, we are seeing some new hair growth.

But Odesa seems to have a positive attitude and doesn’t want to talk about the past.  Did you know she gets to go for walks now?  That’s so much fun, even if it involves this leash gadget.  She’s crate trained, though when it comes to nighttime – and she says this is non-negotiable – she will be in that big bed to be close to you.

🐶 Age: About 6 years old.

👍🏻 Weight: An ideal 17 lbs.

🐾 Circumstances: A puppy mill rescue.

🐕 Temperament: A lover that wants a person of her own.

❤️ Health: Odesa arrived in rescue with fleas and treatment is progressing.  Her ears were also infected and are being treated and she’s now current on her shots.  Odesa will have spay surgery and a dental cleaning and polishing of her teeth, which have minimum tartar. CRF microchips all rescues.

🏡 Forever Home Requirements:

✔️ Adult family only.  Low alone time/someone with her much of day.  

✔️ She’s negotiating the big bed in her contract.

✔️ A secure fenced yard is absolutely needed.

✔️ Can be an only dog if you like.
